Downstream & Upstream.
Of course, you travel on the Danube - by boat. There were boats travelling on the Danube long before our era.
For the Romans the Danube was the border river separating them from the peoples in the north. In the Middle Ages, the Bavarian-Austrian Danube Region was the centre of East-West trade. Before steamships were introduced around the middle of the 19th century, ships and rafts were built entirely of wood.
The Spitz Maritime Museum offers you a variety of insights into the history and technology of the historic Danube navigation. Ship, ahoy!
